SALTED CARAMEL SAUCE

OKAY YA’LL. THIS. IS. IT.

Seriously. Stop what you’re doing (actually finish reading this post first) and go make this sauce. It is SO. DAMN. GOOD. Put it on anything! Put it on popcorn, pretzels, apple pie, ice cream, whatever you want!

I like to make this during the holidays and put it on literally any dessert that is around! I specifically started making it to top my apple pie but quickly learned it’s good on anything. You can even jar it up in a cute little mason jar and gift it to people. I’m definitely going to be doing that this year!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 6 tbsp butter

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1 tsp salt

So this recipe can be kind of tricky. I highly suggest having all your ingredients prepped and ready to go because once things get going things move FAST!

First you want to start off by melting the sugar in a large sauce pan over a medium heat. You want to stir it frequently so it doesn’t burn but you don’t want to over stir it either. It’s a happy balance. If you over stir you’ll end up with big chunks of sugar and its just not going to melt down. The smell of burning sugar isn’t pleasant so you’ll be able to tell right away if it is burning.

Once that is all melted down you want to add the butter one tablespoon at a time. It will bubble up a little so be careful and just keep stirring.

Next add in your heavy cream. This will SERIOUSLY bubble up so just watch your hands. Stir it and let it boil for about a minute.

Remove it from the heat and add your salt. Mix it all up and transfer to a heat safe container. Seal it tight and you can keep it in the fridge for about 2 weeks.
