OBÉ 6 WEEK CHALLENGE

OKAY YA'LL! Lets talk about OBÉ! Our Body Electric! It's this amazing workout app that live streams classes during the day so you can take a workout class from the comfort of your own home! And a bonus you get to work out with some of NYC's top fitness instructors!

So to break down this app, they live stream workout classes (the set looks kinda like the box from the Hotline Bling music video!), BUT they also have on demand classes so you can log on anytime and do a class! They were offering this 6 week program during the summer and I thought it was the perfect opportunity for me to jump start my fitness journey. So with this 6 week program every Sunday they send you an email with what type of workouts you should do that week and a blank calendar so it's up to you to schedule your workouts for whatever works best in your schedule. I then got to join an Instagram pod with others also doing the classes so we can all check in with each other during the week and to keep us all accountable! Also, a little bonus, they sent you a crop tank top and resistance bands so you can level up during your 6 weeks.

Let me give you a little background to my own "fitness journey". So I never was really someone that every worked out in the gym, lifted weights, anything like that. I was a competitive dancer basically my whole life and that was my workout, and damn it was a good one! I danced up until college, so I was 22 when I graduated and subsequently stopped dancing.

After I graduated college I was kind of lost in the workout and fitness department and wasn't really sure what to do. There was a time after college where I did yoga which I really loved but that came at a time in my life where I was really struggling with anxiety and it really helped my find balance and clarity. I fell out of yoga because in all honesty it was just too damn expensive!

The next thing I tried was working out with a personal trainer. My dad is a personal trainer himself so he set me up with someone. I worked out with him for a year and I really loved it at first but after a while I really started to get bored of it and would find any excuse not to meet with him!

Then earlier this year, in March, I started dancing again! I found the incredible Rickey Sisters (I have a whole post about them thats basically me just confessing my love!). Through the lovely Rickey Sisters is where I discovered OBE! They teach their dance classes there Sunday at 11am if anyone is interested!

So here I will break down the classes I took every day for the 6 weeks and after each week I'll comment on how I was feeling about it at that time, if anyone is interested! (Also keep in mind that all my Wednesdays are Mediation days because I take the Rickey Sisters class at Studio B that day!)

After week one I was feeling so good about myself! I was feeling so proud that I was able to do an entire week of working out consistently and actually enjoyed myself while doing it! I'm not gonna lie though, it was HARD! I started the week out with Megan Roup (trainer to some Victoria Secret Angels!) and her classes are no joke! You leave those classes feeling SORE! Remember this was my first jump back into working out constantly so I was extremely sore through out the week so I ended with a nice stretch of yoga which felt amazing!

So I was feeling SO good going into week 2. I realized I can easily make time for a 30 minute workout each day so I had no excuses! It felt good to get a workout in every day. Along with these daily workouts I decided I should probably start eating better too. Everyone always says change starts in the kitchen so I gave it a shot. Eating healthy is a big lifestyle change so I'm easing my way into. I start each morning with my spirulina smoothie (which I did a post about so I'll link it here) and I found that when I started my day with something good for my body I was prone to make better choices through out the day. I tried a lot of new instructors this week so I'm starting to find which instructors are a good fit for me. I'm really excited to head into week 3 and get this going!

I truly didn't start to get into it again until Thursday with Tiffani because I think the HIIT classes are my favorite. I think it's also about finding instructors that you mesh with the best and i'm definitely starting to find my favorites!

Week 4 was AMAZING! I really began to feel myself loving to working out every day! I was doing amazing with all my workouts until Friday. Friday I went to happy hour after work with some girls and lets just say there was no way I was going to workout after that! So that meant Saturday and Sunday I had to triple up and it was honestly the best thing I could have done! I LOVED doing them back to back to back. Like I sweat so much and I truly didn't mind because I knew that I was working hard. I can tell that I'm getting stronger because with each class I do I notice I can last longer doing certain moves. I'm not sure it's a change in my mental state or i'm getting stronger or a combination of both but regardless I am loving the change!

All in all if you're like me this app is made for you. I'm the kind of person that won't just work out on my own or just go to the gym and know what to do. I need a class environment because I need someone to keep me accountable and encourage me. But... I don't like to leave my house! So when I say this app was made for me I'm not kidding!
